ARTIST STATEMENT

RIKKE HOSTRUP B. 1974 IN COPENHAGEN / DENMARK

Her work revolve around the body as collective recollection and her thematics includes gender, apathy and deprivation.

Whether ceramic sculptures or photography, her work balance between the abstract yet recognisable, with a tension between the offensive and the appealing, solemness and frivolity, innocence and obscenity, the seductive and the awkward.

Even though she is trained as a painter, her primary media today is ceramic sculptures and photographs. The painterly background is present as a vivid representation of color in both objects and photographs.
